c-base Berlin is a hacking collective with the purpose to increase knowledge and skills pertaining to computer software, hardware and data networks. The association is also engaged in numerous related and promoted activities for the city of Berlin.
c-base. An old space station discovered under Berlin’s city center
In 1995, the remnants of a 4.5-billion-year-old space station were discovered under Berlin’s center. Initial research has shown that the c-shaped space station with its center must be located below today’s Alexanderplatz and consists of 7 rings.
On the basis of a found piece with the inscription “c-base – be future compatible” and based on the number of rings, the reconstruction team, which initially consisted of only a few members, defined the project name and the division into seven work areas. c-base Berlin is the place for learning and experimenting the hacking, a sort of super funky hackerspace in the city of Berlin.
The c-base cosmos. Overview of activities and possibilities, construction of the space station.
The logbook of the c-base. It contains the previously known station history, the reconstruction history, the entries of the original crew and the current research team.
The scientific field. Seminars and workshops from c like c-base to C programming, internet usage, Linux, web design to Z like futurology.
The focus for creativity and imagination. The crew bundles their artistic and technical visions through actions and projects.
The event sector. The conception and realization of exhibitions, sports activities, performance & theater, readings, parties and much more on the c-base find space here.
Discussion and presentation platform. Communication between all levels and areas of c-base creates new ideas. Communication on an external mission opens up contact possibilities of any kind, which leads to the expansion of the crew as well as the establishment of international contacts.
The organization. The non-profit c-base eV is the sponsor of the seven work areas.
The ever-growing reconstruction team of experts and laypersons of various scientific and cultural areas – today’s crew of c-base – meets for the exchange of ideas and further project development in the rs20 multi-module station.
c-base is recognized as one of the first hackerspaces in the world. It, along with Metalab, directly influenced the creation of hackerspaces in the US.
Yeah, this is another amazing Berlin thing. Only in Berlin, things like this happen!
