Three new long-haul flights to North America
Primera Air will connect the capital region with Boston, New York and Toronto. The Nordic airline will commence operations at Berlin-Tegel at the beginning of June 2019. Aircraft from the new Boeing 737 Max 9 fleet will be used on the three new long-haul routes. From 7 June 2019, there will be daily flights to JFK Airport in New York. Boston, “the grand old lady” of the New World, will be connected to Berlin from June 9. The connection will be flown four times a week (every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). The connection to Toronto will follow on 10 June. Three flights a week (every Monday, Thursday and Saturday) will then fly to the Canadian metropolis. Entry prices (one-way) start from 149 Euros. Flights are available to book as of now.
The capital of the state of Massachusetts on the US east coast is one of the oldest, wealthiest and culturally most diverse cities in America. Known as “the Cradle of Modern America”, today the city represents living history as well as modern America. It is the starting point for explorations to New England (a real splendour of colour, especially in autumn) as well as to Cape Cod (where the first Pilgrims landed).
Although the city has almost 700,000 inhabitants, it is built compactly and is easy to discover on foot. The list of tourist attractions is long. The “Freedom Trail” belongs to the must-sees (or rather, the must-dos). The four-kilometre-long route is marked by a solid red line of bricks. Whoever follows it automatically walks past 17 historical sites, including Boston Old City Hall, the USS Constitution (the oldest warship in the world still afloat) or the Bunker Hill Monument. You should also visit the “Museum of Fine Arts” or the “Museum of Science”, where you can easily spend a day in each place. Also recommended is a visit to one of the numerous parks, e.g. the Boston Common or Boston Public Garden, a canoe tour on the Charles River and a visit to the baseball stadium Fenway Park (at best during a Red Sox game).
Whoever would like to discover the charm of New England, Cape Cod, the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, Salem (the “town of witches”), a tour through the many small and large places along the Atlantic Coast up to Rochester, a whale-watching tour and of course the colourful Indian Summer are recommended.
The city on the Hudson River, also known as the Big Apple, counts as one of the most popular cities in the world – and not without reason. The list of tourist attractions and places that you have to see seems to be almost endless – including the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building as well as Times Square. But even away from the tourist hotspots, the “City of Dreams” has something to offer; among these are the High Line Park (a freight train line over two kilometres long, converted into a park), Chelsea Market (a real paradise for foodies) and a boat trip with the “Water Table” (an old military ship with a large observation deck from which you can admire the Brooklyn Bridge or the Statue of Liberty for example).
Toronto is simultaneously the capital city of the province Ontario, the fourth biggest city in North America and the financial and economic centre of Canada, but also the city of 140 languages, flea-markets, galleries and street art. On some corners, it looks like Manhatten and on others like Berlin. From the CN-Tower to the Royal Ontario Museum, the High Park or Chinatown, the to do list for Toronto and the surrounding area is quickly full. A day trip to Niagara Falls, the Blue Mountains or Wasagi Beach is also recommended. And whoever experienced a warm summer evening at the illuminated harbour front once, wants to come back again and again…
